BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acids)
BCAA stands for Branched-Chain Amino Acids, or branched-chain amino acids. These are the three amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine. When you do strength training, your body uses these amino acids to allow muscles to recover. BCAAs are the main building blocks of protein, helping to maintain and build muscle mass.

Leucine, isoleucine and valine
So a BCAA powder always consists of the combination of leucine, isoleucine and valine (3 essential amino acids). Because your body cannot produce these BCAAs itself, it is important to get enough from your diet. You do this by eating protein-rich foods. Protein sources such as fish, meat, legumes, eggs, cheese and milk are particularly high in branched chain amino acids.
Leucine is the amino acid with the greatest involvement in protein synthesis. Isoleucine and valine seem to be more effective in energy production.
Especially if you are too low in your protein intake, or if you do not eat certain (animal) products, there is a chance that you are not getting enough BCAA. A good solution to this is to use a BCAA supplement, either in powder or capsule form.
